A gully with no history of problems can back up within minutes once the channel itself is running full.

Older connections built decades before current stormwater standards existed tend to surcharge first, simply because they were never sized for today's paved-over blocks and roof runoff.

That's a different fault to a slow, root-choked line, and it needs a different response: clearing the stormwater pit and pipe run itself, not the sewer.

A blockage doesn't check the clock before it turns serious.

Signs it's genuinely urgent: several drains slow at once, a gully spilling into the garden bed, an unfamiliar smell drifting up from a floor waste, or water rising somewhere it's simply never pooled before.

Ring any hour and an actual person picks up, not a recorded menu.

Whole-house backups point to blocked sewer; one fixture refusing to clear is usually blocked toilets instead.

A drain camera goes down the line before any tool touches the pipe, so the fault is confirmed, not guessed at.

From there it's either a jet blast or the electric eel, matched to whatever's actually causing the block.

A joint that's failed gets repaired on the spot rather than papered over for next season, and a pipe that can take relining skips the dig altogether.
